Job Description
Working Location: Kai Tak,
Employment Duration: 2-year contract
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to own the end‑to‑end architecture of Smart Meter Platform (SMP) . This role will lead the transition from legacy and fragmented AMI solutions to a scalable, resilient SMP capable of supporting deployment of new generation of smart meters, high‑integrity billing operations, and advanced grid intelligence use cases.
You will play a critical role in building a platform that supports CLP’s long‑term commitment to grid reliability, operational excellence, and digital innovation, while bridging global utility best practices with the rapidly evolving China smart metering ecosystem.
The role sits at the intersection of OT and IT, ensuring that meter data collected from the field becomes trusted, timely, and valuable information across billing, LV network monitoring, and AI‑driven analytics—while meeting CLP’s security, reliability, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Platform Redesign & Convergence
- Lead the target‑state architecture for CLP’s Smart Meter Platform, consolidating legacy AMI components into a coherent, scalable, and maintainable architecture
- Design next-gen SMP able to integrate and operate China OEM meters without creating long‑term vendor lock‑in
- Define clear system interoperability between meters, HES, MDM, data platforms, and other enterprise systems
- Ensure end‑to‑end data integrity across meter reading, validation, estimation, and billing processes
- Address real‑world conditions such as delayed reads, missing data, clock drift, and reconciliation scenarios
Smart Grid & Advanced Analytics Enablement
- Design high‑volume, low‑latency data pipelines to support LV network monitoring, grid fault detection, power quality analytics, and emerging AI use cases
- Define edge‑to‑cloud processing strategies that balance near‑meter processing with central analytics platforms
- Enable downstream teams to consume meter data for operational and analytical use cases
OEM & Ecosystem Engagement
- Evaluate and integrate China‑based smart meter OEMs and platforms, ensuring alignment with CLP’s architectural, security, and operational standards
- Lead technical engagements with OEM engineering teams, addressing protocol compliance, interoperability, and scalability risks
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
- Professional Experience
- 8+ years in solution or platform architecture roles
- Minimum 5 years focused on AMI / smart metering in a utility or large‑scale critical infrastructure environment
- Demonstrated success delivering platform replatforming or migration programmes involving legacy systems and multiple vendors
- Strong capability in documenting and explaining complex system architectures using UML, sequence diagrams, and architecture views
- Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related discipline
Core Capabilities & Domain Expertise
- AMI / Smart Metering Domain Expertise

- DLMS/COSEM, IEC 62056
- Platform & Integration Architecture
- Proven experience designing and scaling Head‑End Systems (HES) and Meter Data Management (MDM) platforms serving millions of endpoints
- Ability to design data architectures that transform raw meter events into actionable insights for grid operations and network planning
- China Smart Meter Ecosystem
- Familiarity with leading China smart meter OEMs and system providers such as NARI, DongFang, Linde, or equivalent
- Experience navigating proprietary extensions, partial standards compliance, and OEM platform limitations
Personal Attributes
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively across business and technical teams
- Clear communicator, capable of conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in complex, multi-stakeholder, and regulated environments
- Demonstrates ownership, professionalism, and continuous improvement mindset
