The Department of Ocean Science is looking for a high caliber candidate to fill a Technical Officer position. The appointee will be responsible for providing administrative and technical support to the daily operation and maintenance of the various equipment and facilities in the OCES. His/her responsibilities include:
- Manage the IT network infrastructure, and virtual servers for the department.
- Assist in installing, configuring, diagnose and troubleshoot, upgrading and inventory control of software and hardware components of computer and network systems for the department.
- Liaise with IT Office to ensure the network security and infrastructure upgrade exercises to uphold cybersecurity standards of the department.
- Prepare laboratories for academic courses and research projects, maintain the upkeep of communal equipment and experimental material supplies.
- Provide training in the use of experimental equipment and facilities to users and ensure smooth instrumental operations.
- Assist in monitoring laboratory safety and access control in compliance with the University's safety regulations and conduct safety training to research staff of the laboratories.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by senior management.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in science disciplines, or a relevant higher diploma/higher certificate with at least 2 years of post-qualification working experience in biology or chemistry laboratories. Experience in laboratory management and administration, providing IT support to a Department is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate should have a strong sense of responsibility, be self-initiative and able to multi-task and work independently as well as in a team. As a liaison person for the team, he/she should have good communication skills on inter-departmental tasks and be an intra-departmental communication bridge among different user groups of the laboratory. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
