Job Purpose

The RO Safety Credentialed Trainer delivers impactful safety learning experiences that build associate competence, support regulatory and organizational compliance, and strengthen a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement in alignment with Honda’s mission and values. This role partners closely with internal and external subject-matter experts (SMEs) to understand safety-critical risks and translate technical and regulatory content into clear, engaging, and effective training for adult learners. The position supports a broad curriculum focused on Honda’s Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) risk categories, including but not limited to Control of Hazardous Energy, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, and related programs. This role partners closely with compliance and communication skills to translate safety content into clear, actionable guidance that associates can readily understand and apply on the job. The Safety Credentialed Trainer maintains required professional certifications, completes refresher requirements, and engages in ongoing learning to stay current with regulatory expectations, industry best practices, and Honda’s evolving standards.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain safety training curriculum in partnership with subject-matter experts (SMEs), including initial, refresher, and certification maintenance offerings. This includes leading enterprising training strategy initiatives such as harmonizing legacy training codes across Honda organizations and developing tools (e.g., safety training matrices) to help associates track, schedule and maintain required safety training and certifications. 
  • Design, update, or procure learning content in collaboration with SMEs to meet evolving business and regulatory needs. Content may be delivered through multiple formats and learning modalities to support effective adult learning. 
  • Partner with safety associates and department training coordinators to communicate course availability, coordinate completion status, and support refresher and recertification schedules. 
  • Subject Matter Expert for all learning system (HLC) inquires, including troubleshooting access issues, advising on appropriate course or certification enrolment, and coordinating with Talent Management for system-related issues. 
  • Manage external service provider relationships and related administrative functions, including purchase requisitions, budget tracking, and contract coordination. Responsibilities also include coordinating course schedules, collecting learner feedback, and working with SMEs to adjust training contact based on business needs. 
  • Coordinate and mentor Honda associate trainers to support consistent, high-quality delivery of safety training. Includes providing feedback, sharing best practices, and aligning delivery with standardized curriculum expectations. 
  • Support the deployment of standard regional training programs by promoting one-way-best-way learning solutions that improve efficiency and support cost-down initiatives. 
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) workgroups to support the development, continuous improvement, and alignment of safety training programs. 

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Learning & Development, Instructional Design, Education, Organizational Development, Occupational Safety and Health or related field, or equivalent experience delivering training to adult learners in a manufacturing environment, including hands-on or simulation involvement with safety-critical topics such as control of hazardous energy, fall protection, confined space, machine guarding, and other SIF-related categories.
  • 3 years of experience delivering, facilitating, or supporting training for adult learners in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with demonstrated exposure to safety-critical operations. Experience working with or around Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) risk categories such as Control of Hazardous Energy, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Hot Work or similar hazards, and partnering with subject-matter experts to develop accurate and effective training content. 
  • Computer knowledge and efficiency in Microsoft Office programs, as well as windows-based systems. 
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, practical learning experiences for adult learners with varying skill levels, learning styles, and operational backgrounds 
  • Skilled at working with subject-matter experts to translate complex or regulatory information into clear, job-relevant, and learner-friendly training materials
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing environments, shop-floor operations, and production realities, including the ability to adapt training for shift work, time constraints, and operational demands.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and customer service skills to partner effectively with local safety teams and leadership to align with business plan priorities.
  • Clear Verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority and adapt messaging to different audiences 
  • Ability to support behavior change, reinforce safe work practices, and continuously improve learning content based on incidents, audits or near-misses.
  • Experience collecting feedback, evaluating learning effectiveness, and making improvements to training 
  • Proficiency with learning technologies such as Learning Management Systems 
  • Ability to manage multiple training initiatives and prioritize work

Working Conditions

  • This position is primarily based at the Honda Training Space located at the Honda Support Office (HSO) in Marysville, Ohio and supports in-person, collaborative, and plant-based learning activities. The role is predominantly on-site, however, up to one remote workday per week may be available when not delivering training, traveling, or required to be on-site to support business needs.
  • Local, same-day travel (estimated at 20%) is expected to support training activities at nearby Honda manufacturing facilities, including but not limited to Anna Engine Plant, Ohio Transmission Plant, and the Indiana Auto Plant.
  • Occasional overnight travel (up to 10%) may be required to support training activities at additional Honda locations such as the Alabama Auto Plant, Georgia Transmission Plant or sites in the Carolinas, based on business needs.
  • Note: Travel outside the region is currently restricted; however, this restriction may change in the future, and candidates should be willing to support expanded travel as business conditions evolve.
  • This position may require compensated overtime and occasional weekend work, in accordance with Honda policies (comp time rules apply).
