Coastal Health is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Orthopedic Department. This position plays a vital role in supporting physicians and advanced practice providers while delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced specialty practice. Orthopedic experience is preferred, but motivated candidates with strong clinical skills and a passion for patient care are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints
- Prepare patients for orthopedic examinations and procedures
- Assist providers with injections, splinting, casting, brace fittings, and other in-office procedures
- Support post-operative care, wound care, dressing changes, and patient education
- Perform EKGs, venipuncture, specimen collection, and medication administration as directed
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked exam rooms
- Document patient information accurately within the EMR system
Administrative Duties
- Greet and check in patients while providing outstanding customer service
- Verify insurance information and update patient demographics
- Schedule appointments and coordinate follow-up care
- Process referrals and assist with imaging coordination (X-ray, MRI, CT)
- Maintain patient records and ensure HIPAA compliance
- Assist with authorizations, billing support, and other office functions as needed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited program required
- CMA, RMA, or equivalent certification preferred
- Current CPR certification required
- Minimum 1–3 years of Medical Assistant experience preferred
- Orthopedic, sports medicine, podiatry, or surgical specialty experience strongly preferred
- Experience with Athena EMR is a plus
- Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
