Job Description

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, is inviting applications for the joint position of Academic Division Director and Clinical Zone Section Chief, Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, the Faculty has been internationally recognized among the world’s top 50 medical schools, and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff. The University has an annual budget in excess of $1.4 billion and attracts more than $536 million in sponsored research revenue.

The Division of Rheumatology at the University of Alberta is focused on ensuring excellence in clinical practice, research and teaching. It currently provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton Zone, and consultative service to Northern Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. The University-based Division is ably assisted by a group of community based rheumatologists who actively support the research and education missions. 

The Division’s research activities have been nationally and internationally recognized and center on its clinical programs including RAPPORT (rheumatoid arthritis), FORCAST (ankylosing spondylitis), lupus, vasculitis, and osteoporosis. 

The educational program in Rheumatology spans all levels of medical education from medical students through comprehensive fellowship programs with the Rheumatology Residents uniformly achieving high success rate in national (RCPSC) examinations.
