Grand Blanc Township is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to join our Assessing Department as a Temporary Assessing Intern. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals holding or pursuing their MCAT certification, OR for non-certified candidates with relevant transferable skills, to gain practical experience in a municipal assessing environment.
About the Role
This temporary internship focuses on supporting our Assessing Department with essential data collection and basic data entry tasks. You will work closely with experienced assessors to learn about property assessment processes and contribute to the accuracy and efficiency of our departmental operations. This role provides hands-on experience with real-world assessment data and familiarizes you with BS&A software used in Michigan.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in collecting property-related data through various methods, which may include physical field inspections, document review, and online research.
- Accurately enter and update property information into the municipal database, primarily utilizing BS&A software.
- Perform basic data verification and quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Organize and maintain assessment records and related documentation.
- Support the Assessing Department with other administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Current STC Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT) certification is highly preferred, but NOT required. We will strongly consider uncertified candidates who possess applicable skills and an eagerness to learn.
- Applicable Skills We Value (for non-certified applicants):
- Real Estate or Construction Knowledge: Familiarity with building components, architectural styles, or property management.
- Math & Geometry Skills: Ability to measure structures, calculate square footage, and understand basic building sketches.
- GIS & Map Reading: Experience navigating maps, aerial imagery, or geographic information systems.
- Data Entry & Customer Service: Exceptional accuracy in data management and professionalism when interacting with property owners.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Familiarity with BS&A software is a strong asset but not required.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and possess a valid driver's license (for field inspections).
• Intern will be exposed to variety of weather conditions, which may include heat, humidity, sun exposure, rain, and uneven terrain.
• The role involves frequent walking throughout neighborhoods, properties, and outdoor areas for extended periods of time.
• Intern must be comfortable standing, walking, bending, and navigating outdoor environments for much of the workday.
• Appropriate outdoor attire, such as comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and sun protection, is required.
• The position may involve occasional exposure to insects, plants, and other environmental elements typical of outdoor fieldwork.
• Intern must be able to carry light equipment or materials as needed (e.g., clipboard, tablet, measuring tools).
