Volunteer - Clothing Closet Organizer
Job Description
Purpose:
To manage and maintain an organized, clean, and accessible clothing closet that provides dignity and choice for shelter residents in need of clothing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort, fold, and organize donated clothing by size, gender, and type (e.g., shirts, pants, coats, shoes)
- Ensure donated items are clean, in good condition, and seasonally appropriate
- Maintain a clean and welcoming closet space
- Track inventory and alert staff when specific clothing items are in low supply
- Assist residents in selecting clothing items respectfully and supportively
- Coordinate with staff on donation needs, pick-ups, and drop-offs
- Create signage, labels, or simple systems for efficient closet navigation
Qualifications:
- Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
- Ability to lift and move bags/boxes of clothing (up to 25 lbs.)
- Good interpersonal skills and a nonjudgmental attitude
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Understanding of trauma-informed care or willingness to learn
Time Commitment:
Flexible shifts; 2–4 hours per week preferred. May include weekday or weekend hours based on shelter needs.
