Job Description

M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. The museum reflects our unique time and place, building on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and the international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century. 

(This is a fixed-term contract position of 2-year with possibility for renewal subject to organisational needs and individual performance)

You will be responsible for:

  • contributing to M+’s commitment to the research, preservation, exhibition and international touring of Asian moving image with a particular focus on historical works including film, contemporary art, animation, and digital media;
  • delivering the Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival together with the team; establishing and maintaining robust networks of artists, filmmakers, curators, and organisations across Asia and beyond;
  • curating and delivering M+ moving image screenings, exhibitions, commissions, public programmes, travelling programmes;
  • liaising with artists, filmmakers, vendors, contractors, museum colleagues, and touring partners to ensure the timely delivery of media assets, subtitles, rights clearances, contracts, and marketing and publicity materials;
  • managing project workflows, budgets, timelines, and programming calendars;
  • contributing to the collection, acquisition, and preservation strategies in the field of moving image;
  • contributing to the general development of the future M+ as a leading global institution for visual culture; and
  • performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by M+.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree relevant to Film, Contemporary Art, Visual Studies, Humanities, Arts Administration; or Cultural Management;
  • have at least 7 years of experience in curating exhibitions, screenings, artist commissions, and/or public programmes; 
  • demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the principles, concepts, and histories of moving image and visual art as they apply to museum/archival practices;
  • have experience in negotiating rights and licenses for screenings, exhibitions, and/or public programmes;
  • have experience in institutional procedures, including solid project and budget management skills;
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and preferably Chinese.
  • Part-time schedule: Mon-Wed, 9:00am – 6:00pm
