Job Description

M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. Reporting to the Curator, Hong Kong Visual Culture

You will be responsible for:

  • researching M+ Collections, encompassing modern and contemporary visual culture in Hong Kong, particularly in the fields of design and/or moving image, and positioning them within a regional and global context;
  • preparing and proposing acquisitions for the M+ Collection, in consultation with Curator, Hong Kong Visual Culture, and Senior Curator and Associate Director of Curatorial Affairs, and working closely with other curatorial teams, assisting with research, communications, and coordinating of potential acquisitions with various external parties;
  • participating in curatorial workshops, contributing ideas and generating content relating to modern and contemporary art and visual culture for online platforms, public programs, and other museum outlets;
  • coordinating and managing curatorial projects, such as exhibitions, collection displays, workshops, talks and conferences as assigned;
  • contributing to the general curatorial development of M+, including building the collection; and
  • Performing any other duties from time to time as reasonably assigned by M+.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree relevant to Design History, Visual Culture, Film Studies, Modern Art, Contemporary Art, Art History, Museum Studies or other related disciplines;
  • have at least 6 years of relevant research or curatorial experience in the fields of visual culture discourse and knowledge production;
  • showcase an excellent knowledge of visual culture in Hong Kong, preferably in the design and/or moving image fields in Hong Kong, and China;
  • possess solid experience of working in a museum setting or a large-scale arts organisation with international scope; and
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese;
  • have strong organisational skills, able to work collaboratively and with tight timeframes and competing priorities.

(Candidate with less experience may be considered for the post of Assistant Curator)
