Title: School Counselor K-5
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Note: Negative TB Test results must be on file with Human Resources prior to starting work
Qualifications:
Education and experience as required by state certification authorities
Valid PreK-12 school counseling credentials or Elementary school counseling credentials
Shall possess highly developed human relations and communication skills
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Goal: To provide appropriate services for all students that will enable each to achieve optimal development of personal/social, academic and career success and well-being.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Identify the needs of students.
- Develop, implement, evaluate and update a comprehensive developmental plan based on the ASCA National/State Standards to deliver effective school counseling services for all students.
- Maintain and assess accurate records of program delivery activities and provide for periodic and annual program evaluation through data collection.
- Encourage the improvement of student academic achievement through enhancement of program delivery methods.
- Assist staff in the development and implementation of activities which provide a school environment that enhances the personal/social, academic and career development of all students.
- Provide career development information and resources and adhere to EEDA requirements to promote the participation of all students in career development activities regardless of race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Function as student advocate and liaison to staff in program and total school development.
- Provide and conduct goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to the identified needs of individuals or groups of students.
- Be knowledgeable of school and community resources and agencies for student and parent referral.
- Support special services teams by recommending and supporting interventions.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents in evaluating and interpreting individual and group standardized test scores.
- Provide for student orientation as appropriate.
- Assist with maintenance of student records and the protection of their confidentiality.
- Keep the administration, staff, community, students and parents informed of the progress and changes involved in the school counseling program.
- Foster a good relationship between school and community which promotes an interest in and an understanding of school counseling services.
- Maintain proper certification and continue professional growth by keeping abreast of up-to-date information concerning school counseling activities, practices, trends. And participate in on-going staff development.
- Supports the school district’s comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program for on-going maintenance and networking.
