This senior risk oversight role provides second line oversight across IAG’s Business Divisions through risk based technical deep dives and assurance activities aligned to the Group Insurance Risk Framework. You will play a critical role in strengthening underwriting and reinsurance risk management by assessing adherence to policy, licence and appetite requirements, and providing clear, constructive challenge where misalignment is identified. Operating at Group level, the role contributes to protecting IAG’s financial position by delivering insight, assurance and continuous improvement across underwriting and reinsurance risk practices.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney) or Naarm (Melbourne).
What You'll Do
- Deliver second‑line oversight of underwriting and reinsurance risk through targeted deep dives, monitoring and thematic reviews
- Assess divisional alignment to the Group Underwriting Policy and Business Division Licences and monitoring of risk appetite positions
- Evaluate underwriting impacts relating to the regulatory environment (including APRA and RBNZ)
- Design and manage risk‑based deep dive programs incorporating metrics, evidence and risk materiality
- Provide SME advice on underwriting and reinsurance risk settings, limits, KRIs and policy design
- Escalate issues, provide clear insight and recommend improvements to divisions and Group stakeholders
- Support Chief Underwriting Office initiatives and where required support senior roles within Corporate Insurance and Underwriting Governance
What You'll Bring
- Extensive experience in General Insurance, with deep expertise in underwriting and/or reinsurance (commercial long‑tail strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of underwriting risk across the full value chain, including interaction with reinsurance treaties
- Proven ability to link underwriting and reinsurance decisions to financial, capital and Group risk outcomes
- Demonstrated experience providing risk oversight, technical assurance or SME advice at senior levels
- Highly developed influencing and communication skills, including committee and executive reporting
- Strong written capability for assurance reporting, insights and escalation
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or professional insurance accreditation, or equivalent industry experience
