Purpose Contributes to the overall success of Global AML by providing independent 2nd Line oversight and challenge of Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for high‑risk clients, high‑risk segments, and targeted areas of heightened concern. The role is accountable for ensuring that elevated client risks are comprehensively identified, clearly articulated, and effectively managed in alignment with Scotiabank’s Global AML Framework, Risk Appetite, and regulatory expectations. The Senior Manager plays a key role in driving strong client risk outcomes, influencing EDD quality, and supporting AML transformation initiatives. What You'll Do • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. • Lead and oversee 2nd Line Enhanced Due Diligence reviews for high‑risk and complex clients, including assessment of ownership and control structures, source of wealth/funds, geographic exposure, products, services, and transactional behavior. • Conduct and/or oversee EDD‑focused segment and portfolio risk reviews, identifying systemic risk drivers, control effectiveness, and residual risk. • Provide effective and independent challenge to 1st Line EDD conclusions, including client risk ratings, mitigation strategies, monitoring approaches, and client acceptance or exit decisions. • Assess whether EDD outputs appropriately reflect the client’s true risk profile and are consistent with Scotiabank’s risk appetite. • Identify, assess, and escalate areas of heightened concern, including adverse media, PEP exposure, sanctions risk, complex structures, or regulatory sensitivity. • Ensure EDD findings, issues, and recommendations are risk‑focused, well‑supported, and clearly documented. • Drive remediation through clear issue ownership, action plans, and ongoing tracking. • Contribute to the development and enhancement of EDD standards, methodologies, risk rating frameworks, and governance processes. • Provide thematic EDD insights and risk reporting to senior management and governance forums. • Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and independent testing related to EDD and client risk management. • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team. What You'll Bring • University degree required; CAMS or equivalent certification preferred. • Typically, 8–12+ years of experience in AML, EDD, financial crime risk, or regulatory compliance. • Deep expertise in Enhanced Due Diligence for high‑risk and complex clients. • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a 2nd Line oversight and challenge role. • Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
