Position Overview
The Senior Manager, Hardware Engineering is responsible for leading hardware engineering execution, technical direction, and team development across complex electronic systems and product platforms. This role combines deep technical expertise with organizational leadership and is responsible for driving hardware architecture, engineering quality, cross-functional execution, and delivery of high-reliability products.
The ideal candidate brings strong hardware development experience, proven engineering leadership capability, and the ability to operate effectively in a hands-on environment while scaling engineering processes and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Execution
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex electronic hardware systems, including PCB assemblies, subsystems, and integrated control platforms
- Drive hardware architecture decisions, technical execution, and engineering quality across multiple programs
- Oversee schematic design, board layout reviews, prototype bring-up, validation, and product qualification activities
- Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and regulatory requirements
- Support hardware/software integration, system validation, NPI readiness, sustaining engineering, and field issue resolution
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of hardware engineers and technical contributors
- Establish priorities, accountability, and execution discipline across engineering activities
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development initiatives
- Foster a collaborative, technically rigorous, and solutions-oriented engineering culture
- Provide coaching and technical guidance across cross-functional engineering teams
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with firmware, software, systems, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, test, and operations teams
- Collaborate with program management and executive leadership on schedules, priorities, staffing, and execution risks
- Support manufacturing ramp activities, technical issue resolution, and continuous product improvement efforts
- Drive alignment between engineering execution and broader business objectives
Operational & Strategic Leadership
- Contribute to hardware technology roadmap planning and engineering strategy
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, documentation, design reviews, and development methodologies
- Support engineering scalability, operational efficiency, and technical standardization initiatives
- Help strengthen engineering operating rhythms, communication, and execution predictability
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related technical field
- 10+ years of hardware engineering experience in electronics, industrial controls, embedded systems, or related technologies
- 5+ years of engineering leadership or people management experience
- Strong expertise in PCB design, schematic capture, board bring-up, and complex hardware system development
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, and advanced debugging tools
- Experience leading technical reviews, architecture discussions, and engineering execution across multiple projects
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and build high-performing technical teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-speed digital design, mixed-signal systems, or power electronics
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC design considerations and regulatory testing
- Experience supporting manufacturing ramp, sustaining engineering, and field reliability improvements
- Knowledge of EDA tools such as Altium, OrCAD, Allegro, or similar
- Experience within semiconductor equipment, automation, or mission-critical industrial environments
