The Head/Fleet Golf Course Mechanic will ensure the proper maintenance and repair of golf and grounds maintenance equipment.
Responsibilities:
Lead and perform all routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a diverse fleet of gasoline- and diesel-powered golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and golf carts.
Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to ensure equipment longevity and peak performance.
Inspect, diagnose, and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across all golf course maintenance machinery.
Maintain detailed service and maintenance records using computerized systems for inventory tracking, compliance, and reporting.
Ensure all equipment is cleaned, fueled, lubricated, and fully operational for daily use by the turf maintenance team.
Perform reel grinding and blade sharpening as required to maintain top-quality turf mowing standards.
Modify and set up equipment to meet operational needs and course conditions.
Apply welding and light fabrication techniques for equipment repairs and customizations as needed.
Oversee proper recycling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
Train staff on equipment operation, preventative care, and safety protocols to promote a culture of accountability and best practices.
Communicate effectively with the superintendent and crew, participating in all required trainings and department meetings.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Golf Course Mechanic
Strong communication and organizational skills
Deep knowledge of:
Gasoline and diesel engines
Hydraulic systems
Reel grinding and equipment sharpening
Ability to analyze and solve equipment-related problems efficiently
Proven record in preventative maintenance program management
Familiarity with golf car maintenance and utility vehicles
Computer skills for inventory, recordkeeping, and order systems
Ability to train staff on equipment use and safety
Working understanding of the game of golf and its effect on equipment scheduling
Ability to work in diverse weather conditions while performing equipment repairs.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
Ability to move, lift, carry, push, or pull items of moderate to heavy weight without assistance.
Working Environment:
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Proximity to golfers and active play areas.
Exposure to potentially hazardous machinery and equipment.
