Develop and implement the facility’s environmental programs (air, water, waste) ensuring compliance with environmental policies and procedures.
Develop and implement the facility’s radiation protection and industrial hygiene programs ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Coordinate the functions of the As-Low-as-Reasonably-Achievable (ALARA) Committee and Beryllium Committee.
Maintain employee Nuclear Energy Worker and Beryllium Worker classification information, liaise with Occupational Health Services in arranging employee medicals and follow-ups.
Produce the annual compliance reports required under the CNSC site license.
Support regulatory inspections (CNSC, MOECP, ESDC, Transport Canada, etc.).
Administer and maintain the facility’s asbestos management program.
Administer and maintain the facility’s respiratory protection program.
Perform duties of Transportation of Dangerous Good lead and maintain the business Emergency Response Assistance Plan for transportation.
Maintain and ensure compliance to business management system documents.
Lead and participate in investigations and root cause analyses and associated reporting.
Complete annual audits and self-assessments.
Maintain safety risk assessments for routine operations.
Issue and approve EHS Work Permits for non-routine tasks.
Participate in the evaluation of facility changes.
Deliver EHS training.
Actively participate in decision-making and management of the Health and Safety Program.
Establish proactive health and safety programs for accident and injury prevention (e.g., ergonomics).
Assist site leadership in developing/improving employee and management skills to execute their responsibilities in the health and safety program.
Revisions to documentation associated with EHS policies, procedures and associated documentation.
Keep abreast of current regulations and government legislation and revise procedures/programs accordingly.
Complete annual self-assessments. Complete accident investigation reports.
Committee activities (WSC, Ergonomics and ALARA).
Maintain and update hazard analysis information and risk assessment information.
Implement programs for the recognition, evaluation, and control of physical and chemical hazards.
Support the EHS needs of the shop floor by attending to issues brought from shop supervision.
Perform responsibilities documented in the EHS Procedures (i.e., Confined Space Entry Program, Hot Work Program, New Employee Training etc.) and the Radiation Protection Manual and the Beryllium Safety Manual.
Evaluate new processes, chemicals, projects, plans, specifications, and work procedures, facility changes, and equipment prior to their purchase/use/implementation at the facility through review of Change Notices
Assist with the evaluation and selection of Personal Protective Equipment and safety devices.
Aid and assist the Director, EHS & Regulatory as required.
Approve EHS Work Permits for contractor work prior to start of project.
Participate in emergency response planning, training, drilling and event response as part of the site emergency organization.
